Lomer Gouin & Eliza MercierBestuet: 24. Mee 1888 - Saint-Jacques, Québec, Kanada
Lomer Gouin was a pivotal legal and political figure who served as the Premier of Quebec from 1905 to 1920, a period marked by intense industrial development. His 1888 marriage to Eliza Mercier, the daughter of Premier Honoré Mercier, established a powerful link between two generations of Quebec’s political leadership. This union bridged traditional 19th-century nationalism with the pragmatic, pro-development policies of the 20th century. Although Eliza passed away shortly before he took office, their alliance remains a central chapter in the history of Quebec’s Liberal party. Gouin remains Quebec's primary architect, having modernized its economy while preserving its unique cultural identity.
